Not Enough

Back to the beginning, on the sixth day, God created male and female in His image and He said it was very good (Genesis 1:26-31). So, if I am created in God’s image or likeness and He said His creation is very good, then why do I feel like I am “not enough”? I don’t measure up? Why would anyone want me for a friend? Can you relate?

When God created the perfect world, in the beginning, He also created one tree, the tree of knowledge of good and evil. He commanded Adam and Eve (the first people on earth) not to eat from that tree or they would surely die.

One day, a snake came along and told Eve it was okay to eat from that tree. The fruit looked so delicious. The snake said she wouldn’t die if she ate from it. Instead, her eyes would be opened. She looked at the perfect fruit and thought, it looks just like the fruit from the other trees and I’m fine. Why not eat this fruit too? She had some. It tasted good. She shared some with her husband, Adam. And then their eyes were opened.

Never before did Adam and Eve have doubt, feel naked or ashamed. When God came looking for them in the garden (as though He didn’t know where they were), they were afraid and tried to hide. Their eyes had been opened to sin and the devastating consequences of sin. Their eyes were opened to fear, failure, embarrassment, blaming others and spiritual separation from God (spiritual death).

God didn’t give up on humanity. He still loves us. He loves us so much that He sent His one and only Son to earth to live among us and then to die for us. Jesus, God’s beloved Son, hung on a cross and was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. For the sins of everyone – past, present and future.

After Jesus died on the cross, He was buried. For three days He lay in the tomb. There is hope. On the third day, He arose from the dead. He conquered death. Then He ascended into heaven. As He left this earth, He sent His Holy Spirit to live in us for those who believe in Him.

For believers, we have been given the power of the Holy Spirt in us. With that, we have been given the mind of Christ. So, if we have the mind of Christ, through the Holy Spirit, we are enough. We are more than enough. We are created in the image of God, we have been given the power of the Holy Spirit so we are overcomes of all the negative thoughts. When God created us He said “it was very good”. Think on that.

Created in the image of God. It’s a beautiful thing.
