Fear

Fear or Abundant life?

Fear. Just hearing the word can be paralyzing at times. Some people live in fear and some people live for fear, the thrill of the adventure.

When living in the world of ‘Not enough’, as I have for many years, there is much fear.

Fear of:

  • not living up to other’s expectations,
  • not being liked or accepted by others,
  • coming across as not smart,
  • not being pretty,
  • being unfashionable,
  • saying the wrong thing,
  • doing something wrong,
  • of losing my husband,
  • making bad decisions,
  • failure,
  • being in a motor vehicle accident.

These are a few things that I fear.

Can you relate to any of this? I know I’m not the only one that feels this way. It’s a sad way to live. Am I really living when I fear so many things?

How does one live with all this fear? Am I supposed to accept fear as a way of life? This doesn’t feel like living to me.

We read in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. The word timidity is also translated as fear.

There is more to life than living in fear. In the Bible, Jesus states that He came so that we may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10, NASB1995).

This fear that I am living in is not from God. He doesn’t want me, or you, to live in fear. He wants us to have life…ABUNDANT life.

Living without that fear. Living the abundant life. That’s a lot to take in. Think about it for a moment. What does that look like for you?

Learning to live the abundant life is a journey that I am on. The journey of leaving ‘not enough’ behind and learning to live an abundant life, without fear…that, is a beautiful thing.

  1. Thank you Freda. This is beautiful and I really needed to hear these scriptures. I do believe I subconsciously allow some of these fears to guide my decisions. I need to release them & live abundantly! 2 Timothy 1:7 really spoke to me today!!!
