Fresh Air

I recently went for a short walk two days in a row. It was a little cool, hence a short walk. Both times, when I entered the house after my walk, it started snowing. I got in just in time. But I certainly enjoyed the fresh air. 

For most of the winter, the windows are closed. The air gets stale and stuffy. Sometimes it’s almost hard to breathe. Not really but it sometime seems like it is. No matter what the weather, I try to get outside, even if it is for a moment (30 seconds or less when it is really cold out). The fresh air is not only good for my lungs but also good for my mental health. 

If you were to do a search on the internet about the benefits of fresh air, I am sure you can find a lot of interesting information. 

Going for a walk outdoors can clear your mind and lighten your mood. Sometimes it can get your creative juices going to help you solve problems or realize that a problem isn’t as big as it first seemed. 

When I step outside and take a big inhale of the air outside, especially when it is slightly cool out, it feels so good. It’s refreshing. Almost invigorating. I like to pause and enjoy that moment, thankful for my lungs and the fresh air.

In Genesis 2:7 (NIV) we read, “Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”

Then in Job 33:4 (NIV), “The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life.”

Taking a deep inhale, I also think of the breath of life. God breathed life into me. The oxygen that is produced by the plants keeps me alive. It’s wonderful how everything works together. 

Psalm 150:6 (NIV) “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD.”

A big inhale, my lungs expand, I am thankful for air. A big slow exhale, I am thankful that I can walk outside in all its beauty. Thankful that God reminds me that the air I breathe is a gift and my life is a gift.

I praise God for fresh air. A breath of fresh air is a beautiful thing.
